Code for Africa (CfAfrica) is a data journalism and civic technology initiative. Established in 2012, it operates CitizenLabs across the continent to help fast-track digital experimentation and transformation in newsrooms and other social justice organisations. CfAfrica also runs digital fellowships and digital skills programmes, and builds some of the larger digital backbone infrastructure required by African media. It also provides ‘kickstarter’ funding to digital journalism pioneers, through the innovateAfrica, impactAfrica, and the CfAfrica Sandbox funds.
